Dubstep Track

This is a dubstep track we have taken inspiration from to include in our media to put over our footage, we liked this track because of the heavy bass we feel it gives a sense of disorientation and it is something that would be played at a party. We also feel the music fits with the party scene and is appropriate for what we are using it for.

Typography (ellen)

This is a text we have created on http://www.dafont.com/ we like the effect on it as the text looks disfigured which reflects our genre and our storyline. Ideally we want the red, white and black colour scheme as a typical horror film would. I feel the bold text in capitals is effective and will stand out to the audience. Also the different sized letters give a sense of recklessless which is appropriate as our main characters are rowdy teenagers.

The use of red and white is effective in the
bold block font as it
stands out to the audience and reflects the
genre well, as the red, white and black
 is common in the horror genre.
The text is a simple text in capitals which
 is also effective as its just bold and eye catching,
but looks distorted slightly which
reflects the story and the genre.

This is another american teen horror film, once again the title is all in red to contrast to the black and white background, usual for a horror. Also the juxstapostion of the title 'prom night' which has happy conotations to it but the title is in red which indicates bloodshed and the foreboding that something bad is going to happen. The use of relatively small thin letters is also effective as the main focus of the poster is the girl screaming and the title just adds to the effect and explains more of the story. The pun underneath the title in white is also striking against the background and still compelling to the audience even though the text is in small and at the bottom of the page.

This film is a british teen horror, once again following the red black and white colour scheme which I feel would be effective for our own film to follow the usual trend for the horror films.
The title is big and bold keeping it simple but yet effective as again the title looks dstorted again reflecting the genre and the storyline. The poster contrary to the other two and most film posters in landscape which is different and we could possibly use in our own film. The use of the word 'tormented' in larger font is striking and I feel would be effective for our own film.

Time: Meet in the common room 3.35 to get ready with hair, make up, and costumes

Props: Strobe light, Cans/cups, Make up, IPod dock, Torch needed for artificial lighting

Important camera angles:

Point of view shot- Stumbling/ walking down the stairs into the party scene

Panning shot- To see the overview of the party scene

Close up- Character getting drink thrown in their face

High angle shot- To show different angles of the party

Skins Clips - AMBER

- This is a clip where lots of camera angles and effects are used, for example  it gives the effect that they are under the influence of drugs, we would like to create this effect in our filming. Also the music is very heavy, just like we would like in ours.

- This clip is focused on Effy, It shows her heavy eye makeup at the start which our characters will be wearing. It shows romance which will be a certain aspect of our opening, With kissing at the party and the couple we are going to focus on. Drugs are shows alot in the clip, smoking and other types of drugs and drink, which will definetly be featured in our film. Her image is what we want the girls to look like, especially the eye makeup and dress code.

- This clip shows us how cook is in the series skins, We would like to style our boys in our film around cook, and put the emotion, carefree fun and his personality in our clip.

This was our initial design of the title, plain so we could develop and work on it.
This is a basic idea for our film title, the name under the influence stemmed from the context of our film opening which will be about a girl who is severely intoxicated and finds herself in a party, out of control. The story then leads on and a couple find a dead girl, hence the blood drips and puddles.

The British flag is to symbolise our own representation of a teenage party and all the things that can go wrong. We drew inspiration from skins, and typography from other programmes and films with a similar theme to our own, teen drama etc.

Typography (ellen)

We took inspiration from the skins logo as we feel skins is a programme with a genre close to our own,
the typography and graphics used reflect the context of the programme, for example in the top picture the text looks like it is made of paint and has run and smudged, possibly reflecting the story lines of the programme.

The black and white text used is an effective juxtaposition as it creates a vivid contrast which we think would look striking if we used the same technique with our own title.

The second picture is also very effective as it looks like the title has been spray painted on a brick wall giving a sense of rawness, and it reflects the context of the programme as the title looks like graffiti and shows the teens rebellion.
Both ideas of reflecting the context of the programme in the title is appealing as it shows creativity and gives an insight into the programme, also both titles have an edgy look which i also think is effective and we can use in our own title.

Research drink aware- Hannah

As we've decided to choose a teen drama type genre we researched binge drinking, the effects, and how this is portrayed through the countless adverts we see. In this clip we see different camera angles used to show different people in circumstances related to binge drinking, firstly we see a collection of short scenes of someone who is collapsed on the floor with his hand lying in sick and another is showing a girl with her skirt pulled down which shows she is obviously not aware of what she is doing.

Lighting:
The lighting used is very dark with a flickering light, this creates the effect that they are in a place which is quite derelict, isn’t safe or looked after, and moreover the scene in which the girl is in looks very dirty with rubbish everywhere. We have chosen to set our film before the main party in a tunnel, which follows the idea of a dark dingy area being unsafe which is shown here.

Camera Angles:
There is a close up shot of the boy lying in his own sick in a dirty public toilet floor, we have taken ideas from this and in our own film we have decided to have someone lying in sick, passed out on the floor, we will use a close up for this camera shot. Additionally there is a high angle shot used near the end of the clip showing they young boy lying in sick in a public toilet, it shows his vulnerability as it shows him as being inferior to the viewers, we will be incorporating this type of camera angle in our film.

Camera Shots:
Furthermore they have chosen disgusting places to shoot the scenes to convey the message that you are not aware of what you’re doing, if you were sober you being in them situations would be found repulsive, but because they are drunk they seem oblivious. From this we took ideas in how we can include certain aspects which we found important.

Strobe Lighting Deconstruction (millie)

The strobe light is perfect for our party scene. It makes the images julty and disorientated which is good for showing people under the influence of drugs as they wont be seeing straight. it also comes out as a blue colour which is brilliant in showing the harshness and coldness we wanted. it also has a clinical feel and we wanted this as this is the scene just before the murder scene so straight away it sets the mood. we can also change the speed of the light in correlation to the music.the fact the images are julted and disorientated also makes it seem like its hard for the characters to see, therefore the killer could be lurking in the shadows. 

Fake Sick - Amber

For our scene in the underpass, one charactor is going to be passed out on the floor in her own sick. To create the effect of real sick, i am going to make it! I have been researching different methods of doing this on youtube. The most important factors are texture, colour and consistancy. it has to be dark brown in colour, which is why you use cocoa powder. it has to be lumpy consistancy which is made with banana and it also has to be thick texture, which is made by oatmeal.

This is one of the characters we will be using in our film, Nico. We also plan to base other characters around her also as we feel she has the right look for the genre were going for, taking into account her hair and her clothes, they portray the grungey rebellious look we wanted.

For our underpass and party scenes we want a dubstep track to be playing, in the underpass scene more just a quieter deep bass which is why this song is good because it has an introduction and the drop comes about a minute in which is about the right amount of time, into an average dubstep song with a steady deep base.
Because of the copyright laws we cant use other existing tracks so were producing our own song but this track provides us with the inspiration for our own.

For the scene were filming in the underpass our character is meant to be strongly intoxicated and spaced out, which is why were using point of view shot for the whole scene. We wanted a sense that she wasnt in total control of herself so we wanted to have a heartbeat in the background as well as a faded dubstep beat.

girls costumes (millie)

 we chose a costume like this as it was inspired by Aleshia from misfits. The short shorts show alot of skin and the bright colour bra hanging out shows a slightly slutty side with out going over the top. the fact the top is white would help to draw attention to the bra hanging out. the converse were chosen as they are comfy shoes that are easy to dance in and look quite street and we are not going for the dressy look with girls in dresses and heels so outfit is a more laid back relaxed street look thats perfect for a gritty party. it also shows a slight rave side.








the outfit below was inspired by  effy from skins. we chose this as its helps to show the dark side to drugs. its perfect for the party were trying to portray as its very sentual with the suspender tights and the skin thats on show but also again very dark and gritty. the leather and blackness of the costume help to show the harder side of girls and it also creates a sense of enigma as many people dress in coordination with their personality and by dressing very dark it makes people wander why they chose to dress like that and have they got a dark personality so the mistery fits well with the murder at the end of the clip. its also a perfect contrast with the above picture but they share the same sensual features.

smoke in camera (millie)

this video is smoke from a cigarette being blown into the camera which is being used as a transition between scenes. we chose to use a cigarette rather than a roll up due to the fact the cigarette provided more smoke. however the smoke still doesnt seem enough so when filming we will have two people either side also blowing smoke too but they will not be visible to the camera. this means three times more smoke will be shown but looks as if its from one person so will have more of a powerful effect.

 for the boys costumes we looked into going into the smart side of clothing such as shirts and jeans but we immediately knew this was the wrong type of costume to chose as we want our party scene to be more of the dirty gritty type. the costumes to the left are representations of what we want such as jeans hoodies, trainers, vans and dark coats. the dark colours and hoodies are ideal for what we want to portray as its very street but also has a sense of hidden identity and mystery which is ideal as the clip will end in showing a girl who has been murdered so the mystery is carried through out with these costumes.

Our establishing shot of outside this block of flats is to show where the party scene will be filmed at, we chose this picture because it looks run down and fits our genre of film. The students could be seen as going into an abandoned flat which will add to the atmosphere of unruly teenagers doing what they want and not thinking about the consequences

One of our main locations to shoot our film, will be Danson underpass this picture shows the type of image we wanted to create and the location we chose is very similar to this. We thought it would be a good place to film before the party as it looks dark and dingy; it’s not really a place where people would want to be late at night, which therefore adds to the feel of them being rebellious. In this shot we will be using empty cans and bottles over the floor to create an atmosphere of them not caring of what they are doing; we will need to use torches for different lighting as its very dark and possible use of a different coloured filters over the camera lens.

Girls Costume Inspirations

 when deciding on the girls costumes we felt the costumes should be based around two types of clothes the first is the revealing grunge side. This type of costume consists of things such as; leather jackets, ripped tops, low cut tops, ripped tights, ripped leggings, fish net tights, leather shorts, military boots, dr martins, lace, studs, converse, knee high socks, short dark skirts, or off the shoulder tops etc. this style is as seen in the first two pictures to the left. this type of costume will help show some of thedarker side of the girls who take drugs and drink but it still stays quite seductive due to the revealingness of it.



the second type of costume we chose for the girls was more of the revealing street look. This will consist of mainly bright coloured clothes such as; trainers, hot pants, printed tops, low cut tops, oversized t-shirts, bras on show, denim shorts, croped tops, converse etc. We also chose this type of costume to contrast with the darker theme as it is more of a fun bubbly costume rather than the dark colours so it contrasts well and shows the funner side of drugs rather than the darker side. We felt that these two types of costumes would mix things up a bit and although they contrast they have many similarities due to the seductivness and revealingness of both. this type of costume is as seen above and below this text.

Makeup

Effy - Skins

Here Effy has smudged eyeshadow,eyeliner and mascara it creates a carefree, rebellious look. She also looks quite pale which shows that she is not wearing any other sort of makeup.

Here Effy has black eyeliner and dark eyeshadow the rest of her makeup is simple and this brings attention to her eyes. There is also light blue eyeliner in the corners of her eyes to bring highlight her eyes.

                                                                  Makeup is used on her eyes to emphasie her eyes and to create a sultry look. Her eyebrows are filled in slightly to make her eyebrows appear fuller.

Alisha - Misfits

 Here Alisha is wearing a light coloured peachy eyeshadow, with winged eyeliner, the rest of her makeup is quite subtle.

Here Alisha's make up is quite naturaul however she has light eyeshadow and what appears to be slightly smudged eyeliner.

                                                                                                                                                               

Here Alisha has darker eye makeup in a blueish shade that is a similar shade to her top. Her lips are also glossed to make them look more plump and give her a more glamorous look and increase her sex appeal.

Emily - Skins

In this photography Emilys makeup has run, but she appears to be wearing dark eyeshadow, eyeliner , and mascara. She also is wearing blusher giving her rosy cheeks which is sometimes seen as youthful. 

Emily is wearing smudged eyeliner and all other makeup is quite subtle.

In this shot Emily seems to be wearing black liquid eyeliner on her upper eyelid, aswell as blusher giving her rosy cheeks, and pinky red glossy lips. It looks quite neat aswell as casual it creates quite a conservative look.

Male Makeup 



Males in teen dramas/horror movies do not usually apply much makeup and if they do it is usually very subtle and not evident to the audience. A lot of the makeup is used to give dark, tired eyes and pale skin.

We chose this as inspriration for our male costumes as we wanted a scruffy rebellious teenage look,

we decided on hats, hoodies, baggy scruffy trousers, boots or converse.
With boys its easier to create the look we want by simply dressing them in dirty clothes
and giving them messy hair.

This is a montage video of the teen drama series "Skins", This is what we invisage our party scene to be like.
In particullar the drinking and drugs part of it, also the romance. We hope to recreate scenes like this in our own opening, we can acheieve this by using similar camera angles and editing techniques.

We can also look at the appearance of the charactors for inspiration of how to dress them and how to change their hair and makeup to fit the criteria of our film opening. For example, the dark clothing which is non branded, quite rough , dirty and out there. Also the makeup which is dark, messy and not perfect what so ever.

Questionaire Results Questions 1-5

 Most people would prefer a teen drama or a horror. So our group aim to merge these ideas.

Most of the people would prefer R'n'B music at a party closely followed by dubstep. 

The location vast people would expect a teenage party to be held is in a house.

 The most common accident expected at a party would mainly be drink related accidents.

Almost everyone would prefer to watch teenagers age 16-19 in our movie opening.
